Sony’s October update to PlayStation Plus Extra reads like a list of arrivals: Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West and the co-op shooter Mycopunk. The part that matters more to anyone already subscribed sits on a different list. On the same morning the new games unlock, the Silent Hill remake and Yakuza: Like a Dragon leave the catalog, and Sony’s announcement does not mention them.

That is how the Game Catalog works, and this month shows the mechanism unusually clearly. Extra is not a library you build. It is a shelf that gets restocked and cleared on a schedule, and even one of the headline additions is a returning tenant: Sony’s own post tags Horizon Forbidden West as a “PlayStation Plus re-release”.

What arrives, and when

Mafia: The Old Country (PS5) is the biggest name. Hangar 13’s prequel, published by 2K, takes the series back to Sicily in the early 1900s and follows Enzo Favara as he works his way into a crime family. It launched in August 2025, so it reaches Extra a little over a year after release. The catalog listing names the base game only; the Man of Honor expansion that MCM covered in September is a separate $9.99 purchase that requires it.

Horizon Forbidden West (PS5, PS4), Guerrilla Games’ 2022 sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, is back after a spell away. Push Square reported in August 2024 that it was among the games leaving PS Plus at the time. Mycopunk (PS5), a four-player co-op looter shooter about clearing fungal aliens, goes the other way: Sony says it releases into the catalog on day one, October 20, worldwide.

The rest of the Extra lineup is staggered rather than simultaneous. The Midnight Walk (PS5, also playable on PS VR2) went live on October 14 in the US and UK and October 15 in Japan. Mafia, Horizon and Mycopunk follow on October 20. Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, Tales of Arise – Beyond the Dawn Edition and Monster Energy Supercross 25 arrive on October 27. Premium members also get Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, plus Game Trials of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Mortal Shell II from October 20.

What leaves on the same day

The departures were disclosed weeks earlier through the PlayStation Store, not in this week’s post. On October 20 the catalog loses Silent Hill 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Gloomhaven, Lake, Rogue Lords, Death Squared and Harvest Moon: Light of Hope. Notebookcheck’s US list adds Harvest Moon: One World for nine in total. After that date, the only way to keep playing any of them is to buy it.

Time is the tighter constraint. Gameblog estimates roughly 15 hours for Silent Hill 2’s story and about 45 for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, so a member starting the Yakuza campaign this week is unlikely to see the credits before it goes.

The same rhythm shows up a month ahead. Push Square reports that GTA 5 leaves Extra on November 17, two days before GTA 6 launches, and that PS5 owners are getting a system notification offering to either pre-order GTA 6 or play GTA 5. By its count, GTA 5 has been on Extra three times since December 2023, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is on its third cycle.

What it means for subscribers

The Game Catalog is an Extra and Premium benefit. Essential members get a different October set, F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, which they can claim until November 2 and keep for as long as their membership lasts. Sony also warns that catalog lineups can differ by region, so the PlayStation Store on release day is the final word.

The practical rule for this month is to read the exit list before the arrival list. Horizon Forbidden West shows that a game can come back after two years away. It also shows that until it does, the only way to keep playing is to pay for it.
