PlayStation

PlayStation is a video gaming brand owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, headquartered in San Mateo, California. It launched in Japan in 1994 under the leadership of engineer Ken Kutaragi, and what began as a single home console has grown into a family of consoles, services and studios that made Sony a defining force in interactive entertainment.

Five console generations later, the PlayStation 5 sits alongside PlayStation Plus, the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Studios, whose exclusives — from God of War to The Last of Us — turned first-party games into system sellers. Across all its consoles and handhelds, the brand has sold more than 500 million units worldwide.

This page gathers our coverage of PlayStation: hardware and console news, PlayStation Studios releases, services like PlayStation Plus, and the business decisions shaping Sony’s gaming division.
