Tate McRae has released her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show performance of Housewife as a standalone live single through RCA. It was the first time she had sung the song in public, only days after the studio version arrived as the lead single of her fourth album. The official video on her Vevo channel keeps the staging intact: McRae in a red lingerie set and a red microphone, a line of dancers in matching crimson behind her, and Gigi Hadid walking out to share the last stretch of the catwalk with her.

A live cut released within a week of the original is a rollout decision more than a souvenir. It hands streaming services a second version of a song that is still in its first days, and it ties the start of McRae’s new era to a show that streamed free on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok this year. The performance video passed 720,000 views on YouTube in its first three days, and Google Trends had the song trending in the UK and Mexico.

The song itself plays with its title. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, McRae described it in one line: “It’s kind of about a woman who can’t be contained.” The cover art shows her in a red bikini and sunglasses, pushing a pram stuffed with dollar bills, and the chorus she sang on the runway spells out the joke: “I just wanna make a lot of money, be my own housewife.” Some listeners first read the title as a nod to the online tradwife trend; the lyric and the artwork point the other way.

According to Billboard, McRae performed Housewife in full, slinking down the catwalk with her dancers before Hadid joined her for a few beats near the end. She followed it with Dear God from her chart-topping album So Close to What and closed with Sports Car, slipping on her own pair of angel wings for the final walk. The set came between performances by Megan Moroney, before her, and KATSEYE and Megan Thee Stallion, after. McRae had told W magazine ahead of the night: “My body is my costume.”

The title was hiding in plain sight long before the release. McRae told Fallon that the word Housewife lit up the stage at the start of her Lollapalooza set over the summer, and nobody noticed. “We drop Easter eggs all the time, and they get none of them!” she said. The studio video, which she shot in the south of France, has her dancing around a seaside villa before a man hands her a yacht named Tati.

What the live single does not answer is the bigger question. McRae has not named the fourth album, given it a date or released a track list, and the coverage so far does not list official songwriting or production credits for Housewife. The country magazine Holler had speculated before the release that the new era might lean country, pointing to a Variety report that McRae mood-boarded the album with a Dolly Parton lyrics book and to her duet with Morgan Wallen, What I Want, which gave her a first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nothing in the Housewife rollout settles that yet. A runway recording is also built around choreography, and on audio alone it has to stand without the dancers, the wings and Hadid.

The studio Housewife came out on October 15, 2026 in North America, and on October 16 in the UK. McRae performed it at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 18 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California; the performance video went up on October 19, and the live single, running three minutes and 39 seconds, followed on October 21. So Close to What topped the Billboard 200 in 2025, and Sports Car reached No. 16 on the Hot 100.

Her longtime collaborator Ryan Tedder has already set the bar high for what comes next. Quoted by Capital FM, he said of their early sessions: “She walked in and she snapped. She’s on another level of writing and inspiration.” Housewife, in two versions now, is the only evidence so far.
