Mexican singer Lucero Rules Out Becoming a Grandmother at 57: ‘My Kids Are Very Young’

There was never a rumor to deny. No one in Lucero’s family is reported to be expecting, and none of the outlets that carried her answer suggest otherwise. What reached the Mexican singer in front of the entertainment press was a question built out of somebody else’s news: now that becoming a grandmother seems to be in fashion among her peers, is she ready too?

Her reply came in one word of pure Mexican slang: “Nombre…”, the local shorthand for “no way.” When the comparison with a colleague came up, she added “Ah, pero yo no” (“Ah, but not me”), and then closed the subject for good: “My kids are very young. When I’m a grandmother and I’m older, then I’ll be a grandmother, but not right now.”

The colleague in question was Alicia Villarreal, whose daughter Melenie Carmona is expecting, as Univision and Publimetro both noted. That is the whole mechanism behind the headlines: one singer’s family news turned into a question for another.

What the soundbite crowds out is the part of Lucero’s life that is actually on a calendar. She is weeks away from opening Entre Amigas, her first joint tour with Yuri. The pairing grew out of the chemistry the two showed on the TelevisaUnivision show Juego de Voces, and the promoter behind it, Cardenas Marketing Network, is pitching it as a celebration of two long careers told through their hits. In comments reported by Panorama, Lucero traced the idea back to that show and to a friendship she says was always there, and she pushed back on the habit of reading her songs as messages to former partners: in her telling, they give voice to what women live through.

For anyone who follows the Latin pop touring circuit, that is the headline: a US run booked into rooms the size of Crypto.com Arena and Prudential Center, sold on two catalogues instead of one. Yet at least one of the pieces that ran her grandmother quote did not mention the tour at all.

The same press session did bring genuine family news. Lucero confirmed that her daughter, the singer and actress Lucerito Mijares, has recovered from the emergency appendicitis surgery she underwent in Mexico City earlier this month. “She’s very well. She has already recovered very well. It was the appendix,” Lucero said, adding that her daughter was treated right away. Lucerito had broken the news herself on Instagram Stories: she was fine, she had had appendicitis, and the operation had gone smoothly, as Infobae reported.

For the record, Lucero is 57. Her son José Manuel Mijares is 24 and Lucerito is 21; both are from her marriage to the singer Manuel Mijares. She answered the grandmother question on September 28 to outlets including El Gordo y la Flaca and ¡Siéntese Quien Pueda!.

According to the schedule published by La Opinión, Entre Amigas opens its US leg on November 27 at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Texas, followed by San Antonio and Hidalgo. It resumes in April 2027 with dates in San Jose, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on April 17, San Diego, Ontario, Glendale, El Paso and Grand Prairie, then Chicago, Fairfax and a closing night at Prudential Center in Newark on May 9. In Mexico, Lucero and Yuri are booked at Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on December 28 and at Auditorio GNP Seguros in Puebla on February 13, 2027.

So the next big milestone on Lucero’s calendar is not a baby shower. It is a Texas arena in November, with Yuri on the other side of the stage.
