Prime Video’s Campus Drivers puts a dumped student on the ride-app boy’s couch

Lois Hogan follows the boy she has loved since childhood to Belrose University, and by the end of the setup she is sleeping on another student’s couch. That student is Lane O’Neill, Max’s neighbour and the creator of Campus Drivers, which the official synopsis calls the hottest app on campus. Campus Drivers, Prime Video‘s new French series, builds a New Adult romance out of that arrangement: a dumped first-year, a boy known for never committing, and an arrangement neither of them planned.

The series adapts the Campus Drivers novels by French author C.S. Quill, a five-book romance saga from the publisher Hugo with a readership that followed the adaptation from its first casting call. Carmen Kassovitz plays Lois and Baptiste Masseline plays Lane. Thomas Boullé created the show, and Tom Goris and Vianney Lebasque wrote and directed it.

A borrowed couch and a fleet of old cars

The official synopsis keeps the mechanics simple. Lois has a place at a prestigious university and her lifelong love beside her. Lane lives by his own rules and is known around campus for his inability to commit. Their paths were never supposed to cross, until the night Lois, heartbroken, shows up on his doorstep. Prime Video’s own pitch compresses it further: he is the campus’ popular boy, she is his neighbour’s ex, and the open question is who thought becoming roommates was a good idea.

The app gives the series its title and most of its texture. In Quill’s novels, Lane and his friends run Campus Drivers as a taxi service for students, driving their classmates around in collector cars. TV Insider, which covers the show for its Swooon romance section, describes the drivers as a group of best friends running a ride-share business on campus. A promotional still for the series puts its two leads in the front seat of a teal vintage convertible at night, so the cars have made the trip from page to screen.

The romance runs on two of the most dependable devices in the genre, forced proximity and opposites attract. Lois arrives defined by a relationship; Lane is defined by refusing one. The synopsis promises more than banter, saying the encounter ends up awakening buried wounds, and the premise suggests the season will spend as much time on what Lane avoids as on the couch the two of them end up sharing.

Who plays the Campus Drivers

Carmen Kassovitz, who plays Lois, appeared in Stalk, the France.tv Slash series, and in the film Tempête; she is the daughter of La Haine director Mathieu Kassovitz. Baptiste Masseline, who plays Lane, came up through Mixte and Nudes, two earlier French youth series that also streamed on Prime Video.

The rest of the drivers matter more to book readers than the synopsis lets on, because each of Quill’s novels follows a different couple. Madior Fall plays Donovan, the hero of the second book, Crash Course. Esteban Vial plays Lewis, who leads the third, Test Drive. Félix Nebel plays Adam, the one member of the core four who does not get a book of his own. Enzo Lorente plays Max, a character called Kirk on the page, and Paolo Luka-Noé plays Aaron, a role written for the series. Eloïse Rey, Louna Balavoine and the influencer Cassandra Cano complete the ensemble as Carrie, Becca and Emma.

An adaptation the readers were invited into

Campus Drivers arrives with its audience already counted. Amazon puts sales of Quill’s saga at nearly one million copies in France. In June 2025, when the adaptation was announced to fans, NRJ reported more than 600,000 copies sold, with editions in Russia and Italy and more countries on the way. The first three books have been translated into English, the first of them as Fast Lane, and the last two move the story to Miami with new couples.

The casting process leaned on that readership directly. Quill went on Prime Video France’s TikTok account to announce the series and throw the auditions open: “Prime Video is going to adapt the saga as a series and the casting is open to everyone,” she said, telling viewers that someone behind their screen could land a role. Filming took place over the following autumn and winter, and Quill and the cast shared behind-the-scenes material with the book community throughout the shoot.

Prime Video’s romance map reaches France

The series fills a gap in a strategy Prime Video has been building market by market. Spain produced the Culpables trilogy, Germany produced Maxton Hall, and the platform’s English-language run includes Off Campus and Sterling Point. Amazon’s announcement places Campus Drivers in that line, next to You+Me – Against the World, a French young adult film the platform released in September. CinéSérie describes it as Prime Video’s first French original under the New Adult label, a genre that French audiences had until now mostly received through English-language romances.

Production sits with Campus Entertainment, a unit of Empreinte Digitale, with producers Raphaël Rocher and Eric Laroche. Boullé, whose earlier credits include the series Erica and La Stagiaire, co-wrote the season with Camille Couasse, Chloé Glachant, Anastasia Heinzl, Marine Maugrain-Legagneur and Mary Milojevic. The episodes are short by streaming standards, closer to a half-hour comedy slot than to an hour-long drama.

Season one belongs to Lois and Lane, because the first book does. The friends who carry the rest of the saga are already cast and already part of the story, waiting for volumes the series has not reached. Prime Video has framed the show around the arrangement on the couch; the books are built around the boys in the cars. If Lane is the one who drives everyone else home, who in this series is going to ask him where he is going?
