HEART OF WOMAN launch debut album from Wheesung’s label with no Spotify

Alice Lange

HEART OF WOMAN, the first girl group from Blue Brown Records — the label co-founded by the late R&B artist Wheesung — have released their first full-length album. Heart Byte : LEGACY spans 13 tracks and arrives without a Spotify listing, built on a listener base of more than 33,600 who found the group through YouTube before this album existed.

Those listeners logged close to 590,000 plays on Last.fm before the album’s release — figures that typically accompany acts with active Spotify editorial support and playlist placement. HEART OF WOMAN generated that audience through YouTube alone. Their Highlight Medley for the album crossed 111,000 views, indicating how much of that listener base was actively following the group’s timeline.

The label context matters beyond a footnote. Blue Brown Records was co-founded by Wheesung, one of South Korea’s most important R&B voices of the past two decades, a singer whose catalog shaped Korean popular music and whose songwriting credits span major acts across the K-pop mainstream — including Twice and Super Junior. The group’s album title, Heart Byte : LEGACY, sits inside a framework that carries real weight: this is the first full-length statement from a label working to define itself after losing its co-founder. Five members, five hearts — the group’s name implies a deliberate reckoning with that beginning.

The 13-track scope gives the group room to make a structural statement that a single-focused debut rollout cannot accommodate. K-pop acts typically launch through Spotify editorial playlists as the primary distribution mechanism — a pipeline that amplifies catalog visibility across new markets. HEART OF WOMAN’s path through YouTube, and the music databases that index what Spotify doesn’t carry, is less common at this scale. Whether the 33,600 listeners who found them without platform support will hold for an album-length commitment is the question the record is now answering. Promotional medleys are assembled to produce favorable impressions; the full sequence is where any structural gaps will either hold or fracture.

Heart Byte : LEGACY is available now on platforms that carry the group’s catalog. HEART OF WOMAN’s MusicBrainz entry registers 13 tracks for the release.

The audience that found HEART OF WOMAN before any album existed now has one. Whether it holds them — and reaches beyond them — is the first real test of what Blue Brown Records has built.
