GTA 6’s First TV Ad Keeps the Guns, Cuts the Kiss and Leaves Out Xbox

Rockstar's broadcast cut of the launch trailer drops the shower kiss and Lucia's ankle monitor, ends on PlayStation alone, and changes nothing about launch day

The first GTA 6 commercial on American television carries no new footage. It is Rockstar’s launch trailer, cut down for a broadcast audience, and the cut is the interesting part. What a studio removes to reach a living room shows how it wants the work to look in public.

The removals run in one direction. The shower kiss between Jason and Lucia is gone, and so is the short look at the monitor on Lucia’s ankle. The guns, the robberies and the car chases stay. The closing card shows one console brand, though GTA 6 is not exclusive to it.

The GTA 6 TV ad is an alternate cut, not a new trailer

Above is the online launch trailer Rockstar released on October 15, the version the television spot trims. Viewers caught the broadcast cut on October 20, during NBC’s coverage of the Philadelphia 76ers at the New York Knicks on the NBA’s opening night, and posted recordings within minutes. One fan reported that it ran at least twice in the same game, The GTA 6 News found, and Kotaku notes that others saw it, or a close version, during Pistons–Celtics and Thunder–Spurs that night. Rockstar has not announced a TV campaign or commented on the buy.

RockstarINTEL, comparing the broadcast recording with the online trailer, lists the differences. The first shower shot survives; the kiss that follows does not. To fill the gaps, existing beats run slightly longer: Raul Bautista dancing, Lucia leaping onto an aircraft’s landing gear, Jason knocking Lucia toward the floor, Jason reaching for a knife in a chokehold. A shorter 60-second spot is also in circulation. Rockstar Report puts it plainly: this is an alternate cut, not a new trailer, and Rockstar’s own trailer page still carries the online version.

The ankle monitor is the cut that changes the character

Most coverage filed the edit under prudishness. Kotaku’s summary was dry: guns, explosions and robbery are fine for broadcast, bare legs in a shower are not. That reading holds for the kiss. It does not cover the second cut. The ankle monitor is not intimacy. It is information, a detail TalkEsport reads as a sign that Lucia is out on parole.

Take it away and the viewer on the sofa meets a heroine without her record. The image gets cleaner and carries less. Rockstar has not explained either edit. Whatever the reason, the effect on the picture is the same.

One logo on the end card, two consoles on launch day

The spot closes on PlayStation branding alone, with no Xbox even in the legal text, according to TalkEsport, which cites TheGamer and the fan account videotech. It fits the co-marketing push behind Sony’s “plays best on PS5” line. The online launch trailer also left Xbox off its end card, while Trailer 2 in May 2025 carried both logos.

For players, nothing about the platforms has changed. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on the same day. The risk TalkEsport flags is the casual viewer who sees one logo during a basketball game and concludes the game is a PlayStation exclusive.

Each market gets its own cut of GTA 6

The broadcast edit is not the only local version. In Paris, the giant banner recreating the cover art on one of the Les Mercuriales towers removed two guns, Lucia’s pistol (with the hand holding it) and an assault rifle, while murals in the United States kept their weapons, Kotaku reported. Who made that change, and why, is unconfirmed. Side by side, the two edits mirror each other: the American broadcast keeps the weapons and drops the intimacy, the French façade drops the weapons.

GTA 6 release date, price and the next likely airing

Nothing in the commercial moves the release. GTA 6 arrives on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar priced the Standard Edition at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100; digital pre-loading opens November 12, and the boxed edition holds a download code, Engadget reported. The next obvious slot for the ad is the Miami Heat’s “Vice City” game against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18, the night before launch, which TalkEsport says airs nationally on ESPN.

The online trailer has passed 61 million views on Rockstar’s YouTube channel, and in that version Lucia still wears the monitor. The one reaching American living rooms has lost it.
