The simplest version of Aislinn Derbez’s career is also the least interesting one: daughter of Eugenio Derbez becomes actress, appears in films and series, marries, separates, launches podcast, continues. The version that demands attention is more specific—a woman who spent fifteen years trying to make the word “actress” mean something when every headline started with a different noun.

She grew up in Mexico City as the daughter of Eugenio Derbez and Gabriela Michel, in a family where the entertainment industry wasn’t an aspiration but an atmosphere. Her grandmother was Silvia Derbez, one of the defining figures of Mexican cinema’s golden era. At fifteen she started modeling; a few years later she moved to New York to study at the School of Visual Arts and train at The Actors Studio. She returned to Mexico with a craft that was hers and a last name that had already curated the room.

The early career followed the contours of Mexican commercial cinema: Te presento a Laura in 2010, then El cielo en tu mirada, Abolición de la propiedad—which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the Guadalajara International Film Festival—and a string of independent productions through 2013. The breakout arrived in 2015 with A la mala, a romantic comedy that landed in Mexico’s top-ten box office and introduced her to a wider domestic audience. She met Mauricio Ochmann on that set, married him in 2016, and had their daughter Kailani in 2018.

The genuinely international phase came through Netflix. From 2018 to 2020, she played Elena de la Mora across three seasons of La casa de las flores—a black comedy that found a global audience and gave her the kind of role that tends to redefine a career. Critics noticed the range it required; audiences followed the show into a feature-length spinoff in 2021. The marriage ended in March 2020, and Derbez responded to that rupture, at least partly, through the medium she built next: a podcast.

La Magia del Caos launched in 2020 as a space to process what she described as a period of collapse and reconstruction. It grew into something more durable: one of the most-listened wellness podcasts in Spanish, addressing relationships, fear, mental health, and personal transformation with guests drawn from therapy, entrepreneurship, and the arts. By 2026 it had been nominated at the Spotify Podcast Awards in the wellness category. She had also built a beauty brand, AMAI, oriented toward sustainable packaging, and developed La Magia del Caos into a company offering retreats and workshops.

The critical paragraph in any Derbez biography is the one about Eugenio. In December 2024, her father’s public criticism of Selena Gomez’s performance in Emilia Pérez generated enough backlash that the conversation pivoted to Aislinn, with commentators asking whether Eugenio was well-placed to judge acting quality given his daughter’s filmography. She had addressed versions of this dynamic before—the sense that she was evaluated primarily in relation to her father rather than against her own body of work. The incident clarified something she had been negotiating throughout her career: in public perception, her biography is always at least partially his. Her own response has been to build platforms that he cannot occupy—the podcast, the wellness brand, the producer credit—though how far those moves change the underlying perception is genuinely unclear.

In July 2026, she released Hasta el fin del mundo, a film in which she co-stars with Ochmann and which she also produced—her most prominent credit behind the camera to date. The reunion drew considerable press attention, and reports through June and July 2026 documented speculation about whether their professional collaboration extended into something more personal. The film’s release coincided with a broader shift in how she is describing her work: less as an actress seeking roles, more as a producer who chooses what gets made and who appears in it.

Earlier in 2025, she co-hosted the XII Premios Platino Awards in Madrid alongside Spanish actor Asier Etxeandía, and Season 5 of the Derbez family reality series De Viaje Con Los Derbez aired on Amazon Prime in September and October 2025, documenting a Japan trip that drew the extended family—Eugenio, Vadhir, José Eduardo, Aitana—back into a shared frame. The family show is the one space where the argument with her father’s shadow is temporarily suspended; everyone is, for once, equally Derbez.

The next chapter, by her own account, involves a storytelling project she has described as potentially theatrical, cinematic, or literary—the form still undecided. At forty, she is more comfortable describing herself as a creator than as an actress, which may be the clearest signal yet that the fifteen-year argument is settling into something, if not a resolution, at least a different kind of question.
