Parannoul’s 상처 (Remaining): when anonymous shoegaze turns confessional

Korean shoegaze artist Parannoul releases the most direct title of his career

Parannoul has released a new single, 상처 (Remaining). The title translates to ‘wound’ or ‘scar’ in Korean, with the English subtitle ‘Remaining’ appended — making it the most direct and unguarded title in this musician’s catalogue.

Parannoul is an anonymous South Korean musician who has released several solo albums and collaborative records without ever revealing identity, face, or label affiliation. Their work has drawn attention from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and Stereogum, and has included collaborations with Brazilian act sonhos tomam conta and international rap group Fax Gang — contributions that extended Korean shoegaze into wider cross-genre dialogue.

Shoegaze is a genre that communicates emotion through layered texture rather than explicit statement — melody submerged in reverb, lyrics almost indistinguishable from sound. Parannoul has worked inside that tradition with particular discipline. Which is why the title 상처 stands out: a genre and an artist known for withholding chose this word on purpose.

A direct title does not guarantee direct content. In Parannoul’s discography, titles have always operated as separate texts running alongside the music. The single is not yet available on major streaming platforms, and early listener numbers remain low. Shoegaze’s cult fanbase does not move on first-week figures, but it takes time for new ears to find this name.

상처 (Remaining) was published as an official audio on June 11, 2026, through the POCLANOS YouTube channel. There is no announced follow-up album or additional single. Whether Parannoul takes another step beyond anonymity — the music will speak first.
