Welcome to Samdal-ri, created by Kwon Hye-joo and directed by Cha Young-hoon, is a romantic comedy-drama that follows Cho Sam-dal (Shin Hye-sun), a disgraced fashion photographer who returns to her hometown of Samdal-ri on Jeju Island. There, she reunites with her childhood friend and unrequited love, Cho Yong-pil (Ji Chang-wook), now a weather forecaster with a reputation for stubbornness. Their reunion sparks a rekindled romance, but the series also explores their individual pasts, family dynamics, and the close-knit community of Samdal-ri.

The series shines in its depiction of Jeju Island’s unique culture, particularly the haenyeo, the island’s famous female divers. The show’s attention to detail in portraying their traditions and struggles adds authenticity and depth to the story. Ji Chang-wook delivers a compelling performance as Yong-pil, bringing nuance to his character’s stubbornness and passion.
