Prime Video’s Helluva Boss Season 3 is the first one YouTube has to wait for

Blitzø runs the smallest murder-for-hire firm in Hell, and for most of its life the show about him cost nothing to watch. Helluva Boss, the adult animated musical comedy Vivienne Medrano built on YouTube as a spin-off of Hazbin Hotel, comes back as a Prime Video series, and its new season reaches Amazon‘s subscribers before the YouTube audience that made it a hit can see a single episode.

That is the real change in this third season. The setup is the one fans already know. Blitzø, whose name is pronounced “Blitz”, is the boss of I.M.P., short for Immediate Murder Professionals, a company of imps that takes contracts from clients in Hell and carries them out among the living. His staff is weapons specialist Moxxie, Millie, the firm’s muscle, and Loona, the hellhound he adopted, who also works the front desk. They get to Earth with an old spell book borrowed from Stolas, a demon prince, and that loan has never been only about business.

What Season 3 promises

Prime Video’s synopsis for the new episodes reads almost entirely as relationship notes. The crew keeps taking jobs across Earth and Hell, but the lines that matter are elsewhere: Blitzø and Stolas “struggle to figure out where they stand”, Millie and Moxxie “prepare for a life-changing surprise”, and Loona “takes on a larger role at I.M.P.” Old enemies come back, and the team learns that some problems “can’t be solved with a weapon.”

Loona’s promotion is the most concrete shift. For two seasons her title has been receptionist. A bigger part in the company, as Collider put it when it premiered the trailer, could force Blitzø to give her more responsibility, which is a different kind of test for a father who is also her boss.

Medrano screened a first look at Prime Video’s animation panel at the Annecy festival. In that clip, as Screen Rant described it, Stolas writes a fantasy romance novel with himself and Blitzø as the leads, and a romantic scene set in a stable turns dark when his past kidnapping by Striker interrupts the story. It is a neat summary of how the show works: a joke, then the bruise underneath it. An Animation Scoop interviewer who had seen the opening episode noted that it has a lot about social media and a lot of commentary on relationships. The official trailer also teases the first single from the Season 3 soundtrack, “(I Don’t Want Ta Be) Nobody’s BayBay”, a reminder that this is a musical as much as a comedy.

From free web series to Prime original

There is a long tradition of animation that started outside the networks and was eventually absorbed by them. The Simpsons began as short bumpers on The Tracey Ullman Show. Aeon Flux grew out of MTV’s Liquid Television. Closer to Amazon, The Legend of Vox Machina went from a fan-funded Kickstarter campaign to a Prime Video series. Helluva Boss follows the same road, with one difference: it arrived with its audience already built. By October 2020, the pilots of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss had passed sixty-five million views between them on YouTube.

The deal was announced at the Level Up EXPO in April 2025. Prime Video took the first two seasons, uncensored, along with a reimagined pilot called “Mission: Zero”, and ordered two new seasons that stream on Prime first and reach YouTube later. Medrano also signed a first-look deal with the streamer. Amazon MGM Studios joined SpindleHorse, the studio behind the series, as producer, and The A.V. Club reported that she and SpindleHorse keep “full creative control and final cut.”

That clause is the one to watch. An independent show that spent years on YouTube at its own pace, with long gaps between episodes, now runs on a platform calendar: a batch of episodes, then weekly drops, then a break until the second half. The question is whether the tone survives that schedule. Medrano’s own rule for the show is a sharp swing between registers. “We can be dying laughing one second and then really feeling or crying in the next scene,” she said at New York Comic Con. “I like that the show can have both things and it can be earnest and honest in one moment.”

The voices behind the imps

The voice cast stays in place. Brandon Rogers plays Blitzø, Richard Horvitz plays Moxxie, Vivian Nixon Williams plays Millie, Erica Lindbeck plays Loona and Bryce Pinkham plays Stolas. Alex Brightman returns in guest roles, and Harvey Guillén voices Vassago.

At New York Comic Con, the actors described the show the way fans do. “Our show is about love and relationships,” Horvitz said, before landing the line that could serve as a tagline: “Love is Hell. We just happen to be Love in Hell.” Nixon Williams tied the show’s reach to that recognition. “We’re so relatable, and I think that’s part of why the fandom is so incredibly committed to what we do.” Pinkham explained the division of labour in animation: “The voice actor gets the race started, and then the animators kind of get it across the finish line.”

The show has also mattered for who it puts at the centre. Three of its main characters are queer: Moxxie is bisexual, Blitzø is pansexual and Stolas is gay. Moving them from an independent YouTube channel to the catalogue of one of the largest platforms in the world changes how many households meet them.

Two shows, one landlord, two endings

Helluva Boss now shares a home with Hazbin Hotel, the series it spun off from. Both belong to Prime Video, both have their endings mapped out, and the platform is clearly building a shelf of adult animation around them. When Amazon presented its plans at Annecy, Melissa Wolfe, head of animation at Amazon MGM Studios, said that “the announcements we shared today reflect the scale of our ambition.”

Medrano has called Helluva Boss “a very set 4 season story”, and the fourth season has been confirmed as the last. Hazbin Hotel, meanwhile, runs through a fifth and final season. For a creator who spent years releasing episodes whenever they were ready, that is a new kind of certainty: a fixed end, paid for in advance, on someone else’s servers.

What a platform cannot buy is the thing Nixon Williams credited for the fandom’s loyalty, the sense that the show was made for the people watching it, in public, one upload at a time. Final cut protects the episodes. Whether it protects that relationship, once the audience that built the show has to wait in line behind Prime subscribers, is a question this season opens and cannot answer by itself.

Release schedule, episodes and where to watch

Helluva Boss Season 3, Part 1 has seven episodes on Prime Video, released in three batches: episodes 1 to 3 on October 14, 2026, episodes 4 and 5 on October 21, and episodes 6 and 7 on October 28. It is available in more than 240 countries and territories with a Prime membership. The second half of the season is due in 2027, and a fourth season will close the series.

All 20 episodes of the first two seasons are already on Prime Video, together with the bonus episode “Mission: Zero”. The new episodes will reach YouTube only after their exclusive window on Prime Video.

Is Helluva Boss connected to Hazbin Hotel? Yes. It is a spin-off set in the same version of Hell, with a different cast of characters and its own story, and both series now stream on Prime Video.

Who created it? Vivienne Medrano, known online as VivziePop, created the series and executive produces it with Tom Murray.
