The premise is straightforward: medical student Kaśka Bilska (Eliza Rycembel) marries wealthy plastic surgeon Paweł Drzewiecki (Piotr Pacek), only for the wedding day to expose a web of secrets entangling both families. The Bilskas—Małgorzata (Izabela Kuna), Alicja (Małgorzata Mikołajczak), and Kaśka herself—are the series’ emotional core, with Kuna delivering a standout performance as the matriarch whose tightly controlled façade cracks under the pressure of hidden truths. The Drzewiecki side, meanwhile, is anchored by Piotr Pacek’s chillingly detached Paweł, whose surgical precision extends to his emotional distance.

What works best in Family Secrets are its nonlinear storytelling choices. The series flashes back and forth between the wedding day chaos and pivotal moments from the past, revealing secrets in layers that mirror how families often uncover their own buried truths—slowly, painfully, and never all at once. The structure is reminiscent of The White Lotus‘s layered storytelling, though with a more earnest, less satirical edge. Yet for every sharp narrative maneuver, there’s an uneven tonal shift or a character decision that strains credulity. Eliza Rycembel’s Kaśka, for instance, is the least compelling member of the cast—her reactions to increasingly absurd revelations feel flat compared to the fiery performances around her.

The dialogue also falters at times, especially in the dubbed version available on Netflix.
