Most live-service games grow by adding territory. The next chapter of Arknights: Endfield grows by adding brushstrokes. Hypergryph’s spin-off, the series’ first step beyond the phone screen where Arknights built its following as a tower-defense strategy game, is about to send players inside a painting: a scroll-world where the landscape answers to an ink brush and the line between drawing and travelling dissolves. It is a bold premise for a real-time strategy RPG better known for factory lines and squad tactics.

The update, called Sanctuary of Ink, is built around Si, a Feranmut Proxy who runs Yuanyuan Manor Inn and lives inside a landscape painting of her own making. She takes in the injured Endministrator, the player’s protagonist, and strange events in the surrounding mountains draw the pair into a main-story chapter that reaches a decade into the Endministrator’s past. The traversal idea is the one worth watching: Si’s brush is the way forward, and a single stroke across a chasm raises a bridge. “Every stroke made with it quietly changes the daily lives of the creatures within the painted world,” narrative designer AJ says in the announcement. Not every creature shaped from the painting welcomes visitors.

Si is also one of two new playable Operators. Her signature move draws an Inksoul out of an enemy, a double that passes damage and effects back to the original, so a target that retreats out of reach can still be hit, or interrupted mid-charge, through its copy. She also strengthens Cryo and Heat teammates. The second recruit, Argent Flow, is an old acquaintance of the Endministrator who mixes sword and spear with mounted charges on his warhorse, Nuli; a later story event uses paintings to reveal the past behind his courteous calm.

Combat gets its own twist. Contingency Contract returns as Indigo Experimental Operation, with modifiers that trade a strong advantage for a tactical restriction. One sharply boosts combo-skill damage but blocks further combo skills after every two casts, and for the first time some modifiers hand enemies extra attack patterns. Between expeditions, Yuanyuan’s Blazing Stoves turns the inn into a management loop: grow crops, raise animals, cook for guests and reinvest the earnings, with an Auto-Farmer that later reaches Wuling’s farmland.

The soundtrack leans into the Eastern-fantasy setting through color bass, afrobeat and UK garage, with contributions from Black Myth: Wukong composer Zhai Jinyan, Death Stranding composer Ludvig Forssell, electronic band 8:48 and returning musician Crywolf. Saved equipment loadouts and sharper mouse targeting round it out.

Sanctuary of Ink goes live on October 15, the same day Arknights: Endfield launches on Steam, where it can already be wishlisted. Cross-platform progression carries existing saves over. The free-to-play game, published globally by GRYPHLINE, launched on January 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5, on PC through the official launcher and the Epic Games Store, and on iOS and Android. It builds on an Arknights franchise that has passed 100 million downloads, and it took the People’s Choice and AudioVisual Excellence awards at Pocket Gamer’s 2026 Mobile Game Awards.

For a game whose systems usually reward tidy supply chains, a chapter in which the brush becomes the map is a statement of range, timed for the moment a new crowd of PC players walks in.
