For a generation of viewers from Bogotá to Bucharest, Michel Brown is still Franco Reyes, the youngest of the three brothers who ride onto the Elizondo estate in Pasión de gavilanes bent on avenging their sister. Since then the Argentine actor has kept trying on men who have lost their footing: a detective who wakes from a coma into a world he cannot read, a hitman whose executed body is borrowed by another man’s soul. In El círculo, the Mexican thriller Netflix released in English as Inside the Circle, he plays a journalist who publishes one video and turns himself into the hunted party. The audience keeps asking for the galán. His recent work keeps offering someone more frightened.

The name on his Buenos Aires birth certificate is Misael Browarnik Beiguel, son of Carlos Browarnik and Silvia Luisa Beiguel. The stage name came early, because so did the career. The producer Cris Morena picked him out as a teenager for her variety show Jugate conmigo, later produced his solo album Michel and gave him the part of Tommy in Chiquititas, the children’s telenovela that was her factory for young stars.

In 1999 he left for Mexico on his own account. Televisa gave him a guest part in the youth drama DKDA: Sueños de juventud; TV Azteca then kept him busy through Lo que es el amor, Súbete a mi moto and Enamórate. That same year he turned up in a place no telenovela fan would look for him, starring in the video for The Chemical Brothers’ “Out of Control”, a clip the British press dug up again in 2017 when a Pepsi advert looked remarkably like it.

Then came the Reyes brothers. Pasión de gavilanes, produced by RTI for Telemundo and Caracol and written by Julio Jiménez as a reworking of his own Las aguas mansas, put Brown in an ensemble with Danna García, Mario Cimarro, Paola Rey, Juan Alfonso Baptista and Natasha Klauss. It led the ratings in countries as far apart as Venezuela, Bulgaria and Poland. Spain took it hardest. Antena 3 rolled it out nationally in 2005 and its finale drew more than five million viewers; Brown flew in with Baptista to promote it and stayed for months, hosting the dating show Estoy por ti on the same channel.

The decade that followed was a working actor’s decade rather than a star’s. In Colombia he played the footballer Diego “El Rayo” Valdez opposite Paola Rey in Amores de mercado. In Spain he joined the second season of Física o química as the technology and drama teacher Miguel Belaza, and went to Bilbao for Pagafantas, Borja Cobeaga’s first feature, as the handsome boyfriend who stands between Gorka Otxoa’s hero and the woman he wants. Back in Colombia came El fantasma del Gran Hotel, La Mariposa, Los Rey and Amor sin reserva, the last of them alongside Margarita Muñoz. Telemundo brought him back for La querida del Centauro, and Univision made him the host of Desafío: La Gran Batalla, its version of Survivor.

The turn is visible from 2018. Falco, the Mexican version of the German series Der letzte Bulle, made for Telemundo and Amazon Prime Video, cast him as a homicide detective shot in the head and left in a coma for 23 years, who comes back to find his wife remarried and his newborn daughter grown. Amar a muerte, written by Leonardo Padrón for Televisa and Univision, asked something harder. Brown played Macario “El Chino” Valdés, a contract killer executed in an American prison, whose body wakes up carrying the soul of a murdered tycoon, so that for most of the run he was playing another man inside his own face, opposite Angelique Boyer. It won him Best Actor at the TVyNovelas Awards in March 2019, on a night when the show took 14 prizes. He then played the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado next to Óscar Jaenada’s Cortés in Hernán, and joined the cast of Parot, the Spanish thriller built on the end of the Parot doctrine.

The reinvention is narrower than it looks. Amar a muerte is Padrón’s new version of En cuerpo ajeno, a Colombian telenovela by the same Julio Jiménez who wrote Pasión de gavilanes. Pálpito, the series that put him in front of a global streaming audience, is another Padrón story, a melodrama about a transplanted heart dressed as a revenge thriller. The genres changed; the machinery underneath them did not. And when Telemundo revived Pasión de gavilanes in 2022, Brown came back as Franco Reyes, in a guest role. An actor determined to bury the galán would have said no. Brown said yes.

Pálpito, released in English as The Marked Heart, arrived on Netflix in April 2022. Brown plays Simón Duque, a man hunting the organ-trafficking ring that killed his wife, who falls for the woman now living with her heart. Margarita Muñoz, his wife off screen, plays Valeria, the wife murdered for that heart. The series became the most-watched Spanish-language title on the platform; Netflix renewed it nine days after launch, and a second season followed in April 2023.

The work since has been steady and spread across platforms. He hosted Desafío sobre fuego Latinoamérica for History, made the romantic films Contigo en el futuro for Prime Video and El hilo rojo for ViX in 2025, and joined the cast of the Colombian Netflix series Simplemente Alicia. El círculo, which premiered on 7 October 2026, adapts Jorge Zepeda Patterson’s 2013 novel Los corruptores across eight episodes. It was created by Alejandro Lozano and stars Zuria Vega, Osvaldo Benavides and Raúl Briones alongside Brown. His Tomás is the reporter who ends up with footage of the actress Pamela Dosantos entering the home of a powerful official shortly before her death, and puts it out. Within days the series was second on Netflix’s trending list in Mexico, behind only La captura.

Brown and Muñoz married in Cartagena in 2013 after two years together. In 2022 they explained publicly why they have no children: both travel constantly for work and have chosen to put their projects first. He turned fifty in June 2026 and lives in Mexico City.

Next comes La ley de Alicia, Netflix’s Mexican adaptation of The Good Wife, released in two parts on 11 November and 9 December 2026. Fernanda Castillo plays Alicia, a lawyer forced back into practice after two decades when her husband is jailed for corruption; Brown is David, the old flame at whose firm she starts again. For once he is not the man running from something. He is the one with the office.
