Some American rockers have to cross an ocean before anyone takes them at their word. Elliott Murphy is the textbook case: the New York-born songwriter and novelist has lived in Paris for more than three decades, building show by show the kind of loyal European audience his home country only ever granted him in bursts. Now he is carrying that hard-won faith back across Spain, one of the places where his cult has always run deepest.

The new run, announced by his Spanish press office at Granada-based The Borderline Music, takes in nine cities: Granada, Seville, Oviedo, Santander, A Coruña, Madrid, Zaragoza, Donostia and Bilbao. It is pitched as a walk through more than half a century of songs, and it comes in two sizes. Most nights feature Murphy with his full band, while the three northern stops in Oviedo, Santander and A Coruña are stripped back to a duo.

The catalogue he is drawing on is substantial. It began with Aquashow, his debut, which the announcement recalls Rolling Stone greeting with the verdict that the man and the record would endure as long as rock and roll itself. More than 35 albums have followed, alongside a parallel career in fiction. The admirers the release lists read like a canon of their own, from Lou Reed and Tom Petty to R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Elvis Costello. The ties go beyond praise: Murphy wrote the liner notes for 1969: The Velvet Underground Live, and Bruce Springsteen duets with him on “Everything I Do (Leads Me Back to You)” from his album Selling the Gold.

The release sums up his standing in one line: fervor in the United States, cult status in Europe. On stage that translates into songs heavy with poetic imagery and driven by guitar urgency, and the announcement leans on the idea that each concert becomes something both visceral and literary. Ticket listings for the duo nights pair him with Olivier Durand, the French guitarist who has been his on-stage foil for decades and whose interplay with Murphy is the engine of the stripped-back shows.

The dates open on November 12, 2026 at Teatro CajaGranada in Granada and continue on November 13 at Cartuja Center CITE in Seville. The duo leg follows at Sala Tribeca in Oviedo on November 27, Escenario Santander on November 28 and Garufa Club in A Coruña on November 29. Madrid gets three consecutive nights at Sala Galileo Galilei on January 22, 23 and 24, 2027, billed in the ticket listing as a 50th-anniversary celebration of Just a Story from America, his 1977 album. The tour closes in March with Teatro de las Esquinas in Zaragoza on the 11th, the Kursaal in Donostia on the 13th and Kafe Antzokia in Bilbao on the 14th.

Tickets for the autumn and Madrid shows are on sale through the venues’ official channels; the three March dates are listed as coming soon. For a songwriter who has spent half a century outlasting the labels and fashions that once surrounded him, a three-night Madrid stand says plenty about where his audience lives now.
