El Niño Erizo turn the compass back home as “Coordenadas” returns the Jaén band to its roots

Jaén rarely gets its own line on the map of Spanish indie, and El Niño Erizo have spent nine years arguing that it deserves one. The six-piece has worked the long road through Andalusia’s interior, from regional contests to the Girando por Salas circuit and a steady run of club dates, while its sound kept shifting: eighties pop-rock underneath, nineties indie on top, synthesizers creeping further into the frame with every record. Their new single, “Coordenadas”, is the moment the band stops to check where it is standing. The cover says it plainly, with a compass drawn over the latitude and longitude of Jaén.

It is also a deliberate step back. After the more electric, organic and experimental turn of their latest album, the band describes the song as a return to its origins: cleaner, brighter and more melodic, with guitars back at the centre and synthesizers kept as colour rather than architecture. The melodies build patiently toward a blunt, direct chorus written, in the band’s own framing, to stay with you after the first listen. The reference points they name are Kings of Leon and The Smiths, which says as much about the ambition as about the sound. León García, the band’s singer and guitarist, wrote both music and lyrics.

The producer’s chair once again belongs to Pachi García, the Baeza musician behind Alis, who has recorded the group at his Alis Records studio since their third album, ENE. In a provincial scene this small and this tightly knit, that relationship is the band’s real compass. García was the one who helped them push into synth textures, heavier grooves and pop melodies across their recent records, and he is now the one steering them back toward light.

The lineup is León García (vocals, guitar), Daniel Navarro (keyboards), Miguel Beltrán (bass), Raúl Sena and Fran Montoro (guitars) and Javier Pulido (drums). Formed in 2017, they debuted in 2018 with the six-song mini-LP El problema se resuelve con abrazos, followed it with Y mi respuesta es… in 2020, then ENE, and in October 2025 the seven-song Único Objetivo. Along the way they reached the finals of the Festival de la Canción de Priego de Córdoba and Riofest, played Hyundai Music Park, Jaén Indie Fest and Capuchinos Rock, and picked up airplay on Radio 3 and Cadena SER.

“Coordenadas” came out on September 25 through FEP Producciones, the Madrid management, booking and label house that will also release the new album, planned for 2026. It closed a five-release September for the company, landing the same day as “Hysteria”, the second preview of SERCH.’s upcoming album NO CONTROL. A presentation tour of venues and festivals is already being prepared, with the first dates to be announced soon.

For a band that has spent nearly a decade mapping its own sound, the new bearing is clear: home, and the guitars that started it all.
