‘Fascinazione’: Alex Rossi calls on Jo Wedin and Daft Punk’s brother

Since choosing to sing in Italian, the language of his family’s heritage, Alex Rossi has earned a singular place in French pop: a Hexagonal artist who treats Italian as a rediscovered mother tongue rather than an affectation.

His new three-track single «Fascinazione», out on Kwaidan Records, extends that project and brings in Jo Wedin, a Stockholm-born, Paris-based singer and songwriter. Wedin has worked alongside Yuksek, Télépopmusik, and Jean Felzine; here she lends her voice to both the title track and the radio edit.

The collaboration is not a first: the two had already recorded together on «Fantasia». That prior rapport shapes the single’s architecture. Two versions of the title track frame a B-side called «Fanculo l’amore», a blunt Italian phrase that sits in sharp contrast to the enchantment implied by «Fascinazione».

Production comes from Paul de Homem-Christo, known as Play Paul and the younger brother of Daft Punk co-founder Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. A veteran of the French electronic scene with ties to the Crydamoure label co-founded by his brother, de Homem-Christo positions the track between Italian chanson and Parisian electro-pop.

The single is the third preview of Rossi’s forthcoming album on Kwaidan Records, following «L’amore fa volare» and «Come stai?». His debut, Domani è un’altra notte, came out in 2019, after a long run as a songwriter (credits include Axel Bauer and David Hallyday) and collaborations with Yuksek, Italoconnection, and Ken Laszlo.

For an artist who has elected to sing in a minority language within the French market, each single is a renewed wager on artistic consistency over immediate reach.
