The fastest breakout of the streaming season is now circling the darkest corner of the Marvel catalogue. Connor Storrie, the actor who turned a queer hockey romance into one of the hottest calling cards in town, is in the frame to face Ryan Gosling in Marvel Studios’ Ghost Rider — and, if the early word holds, he would do it as the film’s villain.

Deadline has confirmed the talks with its own sources after The Hollywood Reporter broke the news. Marvel’s representatives declined to comment, and no one has said which role Storrie would play, though he is reportedly being lined up as the antagonist. “Circling” is trade shorthand for negotiations, not a signed deal, so the pairing is a direction of travel rather than a finished casting.

The creative team around him is already familiar. Ghost Rider reunites Gosling with Shawn Levy, who directed him in Star Wars: Starfighter, and with that film’s writer, Jonathan Tropper. Levy also knows the Marvel machine from the inside after steering Deadpool & Wolverine. The flaming-skulled stunt rider last headlined live-action films when Nicolas Cage played him in Ghost Rider and its sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance; this version arrives with one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading men and a director-writer pair who have just shared a galaxy.

Storrie is the wild card. He became one of the buzziest names of the moment with Heated Rivalry, the Crave and HBO Max series adapted from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels, in which he stars opposite Hudson Williams. The show is now heading into its second season, and since it debuted Storrie has had his pick of projects: Craig Zobel’s thriller Turpentine alongside Melissa McCarthy, A24’s Please from Halina Reijn, Molly Gordon’s Peaked and Sarah Polley’s The Bell Jar for Focus Features. His breakout run also brought an Emmy nomination for hosting Saturday Night Live.

The logistics remain at the far end of the calendar. Marvel announced Ghost Rider at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, production is slated for 2027, and the film is dated for release on July 28, 2028.

If talks close, Storrie’s post-hockey slate will run from Turpentine, Please, Peaked and The Bell Jar straight into a showdown with a man whose head is on fire.
