Taylaur’s film, co-produced by Mo Abudu for EbonyLife, is a Nollywood romance-drama that plays out like a well-meaning but overly cautious love triangle. The premise—two best friends falling for the same man—is ripe for drama, but A Sunday Affair never fully commits to the emotional stakes. The script, written by Nnegest Likké and Darrel Bristow Bovey, stumbles through predictable beats: secret dates, awkward confrontations, and a convenient illness that removes one woman from the equation (Toyin’s abrupt exit due to a fatal disease feels more like narrative laziness than earned tragedy). The film’s visuals are its strongest asset—Taylaur has an eye for vibrant locations, particularly in Lagos’ upscale settings—but even these can’t compensate for a story that never digs deeper.

Egbuson-Akande and Ikpe-Etim deliver solid performances, though their characters lack depth. Uche is the more grounded of the two, while Toyin is given fewer layers to work with before her untimely demise. Erhuero’s Sunday is charming but underdeveloped; his indecisiveness between the two women feels less like a moral dilemma and more like narrative convenience. The supporting cast—particularly Eku Edewor as Mrs. Oyeyemi and Alexx Ekubo as Femi—adds texture, but their roles are underutilized.

The film’s biggest flaw is its refusal to embrace the messy, uncomfortable truths of love triangles. Instead of exploring the complexities of desire, loyalty, and heartbreak, A Sunday Affair plays it safe, opting for a neat resolution that feels manufactured rather than earned.
