DeepSeek is a Chinese artificial-intelligence company headquartered in Hangzhou and founded in 2023, backed by the quantitative hedge fund High-Flyer. It develops open large language models — notably the DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 families — known for strong reasoning performance achieved at a fraction of the usual training cost.

The company is led by its founder, Liang Wenfeng. Its model releases drew worldwide attention in early 2025 for rivalling the leading Western systems while being distributed under open licences.
