Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown’s pregnancy rumors make adoption a waiting room

Millie Bobby Brown’s newest Instagram carousel shows her son the way the Stranger Things star has always shown her daughter: in pieces. People counted a tiny hand in her lap in one frame and two small feet in pumpkin socks in another. There is no face and no name. Around the same post, a different question was circulating under her name, built on a fan’s viral claim about a baby bump on a New York street: is Millie Bobby Brown pregnant?

The photo and the question belong together. Brown and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, have built their family through adoption, twice, and said from the start that they would raise it in “peace and privacy.” The pregnancy rumor fills the space they refuse to fill. MCM’s reading is simple: the rumor tells you nothing about Brown and a great deal about an audience that still treats adoption as a waiting room, the place a famous young woman sits until the “real” announcement arrives.

That reflex is not confined to celebrity feeds. Anyone who has adopted, or was adopted, knows the follow-up question at a family dinner: and will you have one of your own? Brown’s feed turns that dinner-table question into a search query, and the way it gets answered there teaches tens of millions of followers how to talk about families that begin with paperwork instead of a scan.

What Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi have actually announced

The public record is short. In August 2025 Brown wrote on Instagram: “This summer we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.” The post closed with “And then there were 3.” NBC News noted at the time that she included no name and no photos. The rule has held. TODAY reported in September that the couple still had not shared their daughter’s name.

The second child arrived the same way. On September 17 the couple posted a photo of a baby’s hand held by both of theirs, captioned “Hi little guy.” People, citing a source, confirmed a second adoption, and Gulf News and TODAY followed. Fans had guessed earlier from a video shot in the Dolomites, in which Bongiovi wore a baby carrier and the baby stayed out of frame. The new carousel adds the hand and the socks, plus photos of the couple speaking at an event for Gift of Adoption, an organization that, according to People, helps families complete adoptions of children in vulnerable circumstances.

Millie Bobby Brown’s pregnancy rumors keep the same shape

The latest rumor is at least the third version of one story. In July 2024, two months after a private wedding, a mirror selfie captioned “Mirror mirror” set off bump-watching; Geo TV reported that other users answered she had simply gained weight. In March 2025 the rumor came from a shopping trip. Brown told the SmartLess podcast that “people started thinking I was pregnant because I was buying bottles and nappies and all the things.” As LADbible recounted, the nappies were for rescue goats that slept in the couple’s bed.

The newest version is thinner still. Indulge Express built its piece around a post on X claiming Brown had been “spotted showing off her baby bump” on a New York street, then wrote that the couple are “reportedly expecting their first biological child” without saying who reported it. The same article conceded that the claims “have yet to be verified independently.” There is no representative, no on-the-record source and nothing from Brown. That is the entire evidential base of the question now attached to her name.

The timing tells you more than any single round. Each rumor arrived at a moment of family news: after the wedding, during the first adoption talk, after the second adoption. Each one read that news as incomplete. In this version of her life, the adoption is the preface and a pregnancy would be the book.

Why Millie Bobby Brown’s adoptions get read as a prelude

Brown has been unusually explicit about why she adopted, which makes the rumor harder to excuse. On Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast in June, she said adoption “was always part of my childhood dreams” and described her toys: “They were all adopted. I never had any of them myself. And I never pretended I was pregnant.” Earlier, on SmartLess, she said she did not “see having your own child as really any different” from adopting, as NBC News reported.

She also gave Kelce the line the rumor mill now treats as a confession: “It’s not because I don’t want that. Hopefully one day that’s in my future.” People and TODAY both quoted it, along with what she said next: “Adoption is love, adoption is forever.” Read in order, the remarks describe a woman who sees two routes to parenthood as equal and has taken one of them twice. Read as clickbait, the second half vanishes and “one day” becomes “now.”

¡Hola! USA reported that Brown credited her social work courses with deepening her interest, and quoted her saying she “also learned about being a birth mother and what that journey is.” That detail matters. Every adoption involves people the public never sees, and Brown has named them as part of what she studied before she and Bongiovi went ahead. A rumor that treats the adoption as a holding pattern erases them along with it.

The case for public curiosity about Millie Bobby Brown’s family

The strongest objection deserves its full weight. Brown is not a private citizen whose life was exposed against her will. She has 70.4 million Instagram followers, by People’s count, and she posts to them about her children: the hand, the feet, a place card that reads “Mommy,” a family anniversary photo that E! News described. She talks about motherhood on two of the most popular celebrity podcasts. She and Bongiovi went on stage at an adoption charity’s gala, which Harper’s Bazaar identified as Gift of Adoption’s Gather for the Gift. A star who narrates her family in public, the argument runs, cannot complain when the public reads the narration closely. And since she has said herself that she hopes to carry a child one day, asking whether that day has come is a question, not an insult.

Fans would add that speculation is simply how fandom works, about everyone and almost always harmlessly: engagements, breakups, career moves. Treating a pregnancy question as an attack, in this view, implies that a pregnancy would be bad news, which is its own kind of judgment.

The objection fails on its own terms. Showing a hand is a decision about what to show, and a cropped photo is a boundary drawn in public, not an invitation to fill in the rest. The “only a question” defense also ignores what the questions have already produced. AOL reported last December that a glimpse of the back of the daughter’s head set off a viral thread guessing at her ethnicity, with one post drawing almost 150,000 likes, and ¡Hola! USA reported fans trying to decode the girl’s name from jewelry. MCM is not repeating those guesses. The point is that they were made at all, about children who did not choose a famous mother.

The pregnancy question is the same forensic habit pointed at Brown’s body. It does not assume a pregnancy would be bad news. It assumes the adoption was not quite the news, and that is the insult. Brown has described where such comments land. “I was like, ‘This is vicious. You are vicious,’” she told Kelce, according to Complex, adding that she had assumed the worst comments came from men and found that “quite a few of them were women.” When a photo of her carrying a car seat and bags went viral, the complaint was that her husband was not helping. Her answer, in a clip quoted by IANS: “when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?”

Millie Bobby Brown’s family: what is on the record, and what is only rumor

On the record: Brown, 22, and Bongiovi, 24, married privately in May 2024 and celebrated again in Tuscany that October, according to Harper’s Bazaar. They announced the adoption of a daughter in August 2025 and welcomed a son in September 2026, the second adoption confirmed to People by a source. They have published neither child’s name nor face. Brown has said, on the record, that she hopes to carry a child one day.

Not on the record: that she is pregnant now. That claim rests on a fan’s post and an unattributed “reportedly,” and the outlet that published it said as much. Everything beyond the verified list, including the argument of this piece about why the rumor keeps coming back, is interpretation. Ours is that it describes the audience better than it describes the family.

Brown introduced her son to tens of millions of people with a hand and three words. The pregnancy question keeps asking for the rest of the picture. She has already said what the picture is: “Adoption is love, adoption is forever.” The rumor is waiting for a different ending to a story that already has one.
