About René Higuita
Rene Higuita is a retired Colombian professional soccer player who gained worldwide fame for his daring and flamboyant style of goalkeeping. His nickname, “El Loco,” was apt both on the field and off, where he often attracted attention due to his outspoken nature and colourful personality. During his playing career, he played for several clubs in Colombia and Ecuador as well as the Colombian national team. He is best known for his unique “scorpion kick” save against England during a 1995 friendly match which has since become an iconic moment in soccer history. In addition to being an accomplished goalkeeper, Rene Higuita also served as the head coach at two Colombian clubs and holds a UEFA Pro coaching license.
