Money Trap on Netflix turns Yılmaz Erdoğan’s caper films into an eight-episode hunt for the Karun treasure

A con man who wants to walk away is handed the one job that will not let him. That is the engine Yılmaz Erdoğan winds up in Money Trap, the Netflix series that lifts his Organize İşler caper franchise off the cinema screen and rebuilds it as television. Asım Noyan is back — older, warier, ready to be done — and a map to a treasure that may not exist has found its way into his hands.

The premise is a crime-comedy in the franchise’s own key. A mythical map surfaces, the sort that promises the Karun treasure — the hoard of the Anatolian king remembered across the region as the measure of impossible wealth. It reaches a legendary scam artist who has decided to leave the life. He decides instead to run one last con, pulls his old crew back together, and finds the same map wanted by rivals and treasure-seekers. On Netflix, that is the whole shape of it: a hunt, a gang, and a payoff nobody trusts.

What makes this more than a fourth outing is the format. Organize İşler has always been a story told at feature length — two hours to set a con, complicate it, reverse it, and cash out. A series changes the arithmetic. Across a season, the reversal has to keep arriving; the map has to be a spine that tightens rather than a trick that resets each week. The trailer frames the caper around its two engine parts — the map and the money — and a season is the test of whether those two questions can carry more weight than a single film ever asked them to.

The lineage is specific. The franchise began in 2005 with Organize İşler, released internationally as Magic Carpet Ride, a small-time-con caper built around Erdoğan and his ensemble of crooks. It returned in 2019 as Organize İşler: Sazan Sarmalı, the sequel that traveled as Money Trap. Both sit inside the BKM comedy tradition — the Turkish ensemble style, built on instantly quotable dialogue, that turned Erdoğan and his regular collaborators into household names. The series inherits that voice and asks it to stretch.

The choice of the Karun treasure as the prize is not incidental. In Turkey the hustle is a way of reading the economy, and a scam artist chasing a legendary fortune is both a joke and a diagnosis: the fantasy of wealth that arrives all at once, without labor, on ground where the value of money keeps shifting underfoot. The franchise has always looked at its country sideways, through its crooks. A treasure map is the cleanest version of that fantasy the series has reached for yet.

Erdoğan writes and stars as Asım Noyan, and this time also carries the franchise into a new medium as its creator. Şenol Sönmez directs. The ensemble around Erdoğan is stacked with names the Turkish audience knows on sight — Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Ezgi Mola, Bensu Soral and Rıza Kocaoğlu among them — the kind of cast that signals the series wants the scale of an event rather than a nostalgia footnote. The people are the franchise’s currency; returning faces are what a caper series spends instead of the single perfect punchline a film can end on.

That is the real stake underneath the treasure hunt. Erdoğan has built Asım as a man who wants to stop being what he is, and then written the one thing that will not let him — a mythical map, one last score, a crew that only exists when he calls it back. A season can resolve the heist. It is less obvious that it can answer the question the premise keeps open: whether a scam artist who wants out was ever going to be allowed to leave, or whether the con is the only shape his life has left. The franchise’s comedy has always had that shadow in it. Serialized, it has room to sit there longer.

For Netflix the logic is plainly catalog. Converting a proven Turkish theatrical brand into a serialized original is the platform’s Türkiye-slate playbook — local franchise loyalty mined for global depth, a two-film property turned into something that can renew. Whether the result plays as the movies did, or as a different animal that happens to share their crooks, is the question the season exists to answer.

Money Trap (Organize İşler: Karun Hazinesi) premieres globally on Netflix on 16 October 2026, an eight-episode season in Turkish with subtitles and dubbing across markets. Yılmaz Erdoğan created, wrote and stars; Şenol Sönmez directs; the cast includes Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Ezgi Mola, Bensu Soral and Rıza Kocaoğlu.
