TikTok gives UK sellers one account to reach 12 EU markets — launching October 19

Susan Hill

Every UK merchant who wants EU customers today sets up separate accounts, separate tax registrations, and separate inventory management for each country. TikTok Shop is offering a different proposition.

The feature, called ‘Sell Across EU,’ gives UK-based sellers a single account to list products in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Austria, Greece, Portugal, and Hungary — twelve countries from one dashboard. A pilot for selected merchants opens first; the full public launch follows weeks later.

Under the current structure, selling across EU borders typically requires separate VAT registrations and, in some cases, local entity arrangements. TikTok Shop’s approach collapses that into a single UK account with built-in cross-border logistics support. TikTok has not published specific commission rates for the EU expansion; UK Shop sellers currently pay 5% commission on sales under £10,000 per year, rising to 7% after that threshold.

The expansion targets the same market Amazon has built through its Pan-European FBA programme, which has offered multi-country EU fulfillment from one seller account since 2015. TikTok Shop entered the UK in 2023 and has grown to an estimated 200,000 active UK sellers. The 12-country reach covers the EU’s largest economies.

What TikTok brings that Amazon does not is a native short-video and livestream commerce layer. UK sellers who run TikTok Live shopping events can in theory reach EU buyers without building a separate audience in each country. Whether that audience converts at the same rate in Germany or Italy as in the UK has not been established.

The operational complexity TikTok is promising to abstract away is real — but abstracting it from the seller’s view does not make it disappear. Cross-border VAT obligations, consumer protection laws that vary by country, and country-specific return logistics still exist; they would fall on TikTok’s infrastructure rather than the seller’s. The company has not published details on how returns and disputes will work across all 12 markets, and the commission structure for EU-cross-border sales has not been announced.

The ‘Sell Across EU’ programme is the first expansion of TikTok Shop to multiple markets within the bloc simultaneously. TikTok has not confirmed plans to extend the programme to sellers based in EU countries or to add markets beyond the initial twelve.
