British television depends on a particular kind of actor and rarely makes a fuss about them: the one who makes every scene around them more believable. For most of her screen career Rosalind Eleazar has been that actor. She was the composed field agent in the corner of the Slough House office and, more often than not, the quiet moral centre of somebody else’s story. Chris Rock looked at the same performer and saw a leading lady. He gave her the title role in Misty Green, a film about an actress who once looked like the next big thing and is now scrambling for work, and asked her to hold the screen opposite Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya.

What her career is asking now is whether an industry that took the better part of a decade to put her name above the title will keep it there.

The daughter of a British mother and a Ghanaian father, Eleazar grew up mostly in Clapham, south London, the city where she was born on 29 August 1988. Her father, Courage Quashigah, was an army officer who later held ministerial posts in Ghana, and she saw him only intermittently as a child. An academic scholarship took her to Gordonstoun, the boarding school in the north of Scotland, and she went on to study Spanish and Mandarin at the University of Nottingham. After university she moved to Ghana to work at her brother’s production company, a stretch that also brought her closer to her father; she has recalled travelling with him and finally understanding how much the country meant to him.

She came to drama school late, in her mid-twenties, training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She graduated in 2015, the year she won the Spotlight Prize and appeared at the Royal Court in Plaques and Tangles. Television moved quickly. After a guest turn in Holby City, she played Georgina in Channel 4’s National Treasure and Shar in the BBC adaptation of Zadie Smith’s NW. In 2017 the parts grew: Christine Levison in the BBC thriller Rellik, Violet Cross in the Georgian brothel drama Harlots, and Jacky Bast in Kenneth Lonergan’s adaptation of Howards End opposite Hayley Atwell and Matthew Macfadyen.

Film came through Armando Iannucci, who cast her as Agnes opposite Dev Patel in The Personal History of David Copperfield, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. The same year she played Kate in the ITV drama Deep Water. On stage she moved into the West End, first in The Starry Messenger at Wyndham’s Theatre and then as Yelena in Conor McPherson’s version of Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre, opposite Toby Jones. The pandemic closed the run in March 2020; the company later returned to film the production in an empty auditorium, and her Yelena won Equity’s Clarence Derwent Award for a supporting performance.

Then came Slow Horses. Apple TV+’s adaptation of Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, which began in 2022, cast her as Louisa Guy, an MI5 officer exiled to the service’s dumping ground after a tail operation went badly wrong, working under Gary Oldman‘s Jackson Lamb. Louisa is seldom the engine of a season’s plot, yet the show keeps returning to her as the agent who takes the losses hardest and goes on working anyway, and Eleazar plays that grief without ever asking for sympathy. Around it she joined the FX miniseries Class of ’09 with Kate Mara and Brian Tyree Henry, and returned to the National Theatre as Angustias in The House of Bernarda Alba. In January 2025 Netflix gave her a first lead in Harlan Coben‘s Missing You, as Detective Inspector Kat Donovan, who finds the fiancé who vanished eleven years earlier looking back at her from a dating app; she carried the series opposite Richard Armitage, Ashley Walters and Lenny Henry.

The pattern of those years is hard to miss. Eleazar was regularly the most watchable person in an ensemble and seldom the person a project was sold on. Slow Horses billed her as a co-star for four series before moving her into the main cast for the fifth, and even her Netflix lead arrived inside a format whose real brand is the author’s name printed above the title. Misty Green raises the stakes without removing the risk. The reviews out of Toronto and the New York Film Festival have been warmer about her than about the film: IndieWire found the drama raw but unfocused while saying she stuns in it, TheWrap declared that Rock had found a star, and the aggregate scores sit in the high sixties. A breakout inside an uneven film is a familiar trap. The performance is remembered; the offers that follow depend on whether anyone buys a ticket.

Rock, directing his first feature since Top Five in 2014, wrote Misty as an award-winning actress whose career has stalled while she fights her own demons and looks after her brother, played by Kaluuya. Eleazar met him over several video calls before flying from London to Los Angeles to read in person. “The room just changed,” Rock has said. “She was funny, she was dangerous, she was moving and completely in command.” She has said she recognised the character’s setbacks from her own working life: “I could totally relate to Misty’s journey and the setbacks and the constant picking yourself back up after multiple rejections.” The film opened as a gala presentation in Toronto on 12 September 2026 and screened in the main slate of the New York Film Festival two weeks later.

WME signed her in May 2026. She plays Tina in Mark Jenkin’s Cornish time-slip drama Rose of Nevada, released in British cinemas in April, and Trish in Petra Volpe’s prison drama Frank & Louis, with Kingsley Ben-Adir and Rob Morgan, which premiered at Sundance in January. The sixth series of Slow Horses, drawn from Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House, began on Apple TV+ on 16 September and runs weekly until 21 October, and the show has already been renewed for a seventh and an eighth. The SCAD Savannah Film Festival and the Middleburg Film Festival have both announced breakthrough awards for her this autumn.

She married the Italian actor and producer Gabriele Lo Giudice in September 2023, and the couple live in east London.

Misty Green opens in American cinemas through A24 on 9 October. Its title character is an actress trying to prove that a stalled career still has a second act. The woman playing her is about to learn what happens when, after years of making other people’s stories credible, a film finally carries her name.
