Angèle’s new single, Love Triangle, swaps the roles a listener would expect. The Belgian pop star sings most of it in English, while her guest, the American singer Caroline Polachek, moves between English and French. The French producer SebastiAn built the track on a repeating electronic arpeggio aimed squarely at the dancefloor, and it is the last song she will share before her third album, Instinct.

For an artist who broke through with sharp French-language songs about fame, money and sexism, the language choice is the news. Angèle has been living in New York, according to RTBF, and Instinct carries more English than anything she has released. Love Triangle is the clearest test so far of whether her writing travels once the French wordplay is no longer doing the work.

The idea came from a dinner in Brussels, where Angèle overheard a conversation about relationships between three people and wrote two words on a scrap of paper. She shaped the song in Brussels with SebastiAn and her longtime collaborator Tristan Salvati, and Serban Ghenea mixed it. “The song plays with the boundary between reality and fantasy,” she said in a statement quoted by NYLON. “The triangle exists musically too: three worlds, three voices, three sensibilities coming together.” The hook is blunter: “Nothing freaks me out like a love triangle.”

The guests explain the sound. SebastiAn, a mainstay of the Ed Banger label, deals in distorted, aggressive French electronic music; Polachek, formerly of Chairlift, has spent her solo career on art-pop built around an unusually agile voice. Stereogum compared the beat to Britney Spears’ Blackout era, and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders named it the Hottest Record on his New Music Show, a foothold in the British market that French-language pop rarely gets.

The rollout also raises a question it cannot answer yet. Instinct has been previewed almost entirely through partnerships: What You Want with Justice, run with the Belgian techno DJ Amélie Lens, and now Polachek and SebastiAn, with the solo singles Dis-le and Une seule vie in between. Borrowed club credibility is a fast way into new markets, but it can also blur whose record this is. Singing mostly in English also puts Angèle in a far more crowded field than the French-speaking market she leads, where her lyrics were the difference. One single cannot show whether the album keeps that identity or trades it for dancefloor sheen.

Love Triangle came out on September 29, 2026, and Instinct follows on October 16. The 23-date Instinct Tour opens at Reims Arena on March 3, 2027, with three nights at Paris’ Accor Arena from March 8 to 10 and two at Brussels’ ING Arena on March 20 and 21, plus stops in Montreal, New York, Los Angeles, London, Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne and Amsterdam. No dates have been announced in Italy, Poland, Latin America or Asia.

Instinct is the next confirmed step, and the first full measure of whether the English is a detour for one song or her new default.
