The film is set in Taipei during the SARS outbreak of 2003 and follows the story of Dr. Zheng Xia, a thoracic surgeon who is trapped in a hospital lockdown with nearly a thousand other people when an unknown deadly virus spreads.

In 2003, before the worldwide Covid-19 crisis, Taipei experienced hours of turmoil in a hospital due to the SARS health crisis. This film is a dramatization of the events that occurred and, at least in its cinematic portrayal, successfully achieves all its objectives and creates a highly effective critical atmosphere without relying on flashy effects.

The film skillfully plays with pacing and captivates the audience with a very challenging theme, approaching it almost as if it were a horror thriller.

It is a film that seeks to go beyond and delve into the psychology of the characters more than the action itself. It narrates the increasing despair of the health crisis and confinement more than becoming a montage of special effects. It unfolds slowly, taking its time for important dialogues, allowing the characters to naturally confront the crisis, and looking at the characters’ desolate landscape sometimes coldly, other times with great emotion.
A sad, almost somber film that approaches its narrative with utmost solemnity, with a deliberate pace and a desire to not let anything escape its gaze.

An intelligent script that unfolds well and direction that succeeds in handling the script and the performances.

Our Opinion

Did we like it? It is a good, uncomfortable film, one of those that you must be willing to watch and take the time to look into the eyes of a film that wants to confront death and approach it up close, very close.

“Foco de Contagio” es un thriller que en el fondo es un thriller ni quiere circunscribirse a las reglas del género, es una película que quiere ir más allá y acercarse a la psicología de los personajes más que a la acción misma, narrar más la desesperanza creciente de la crisis sanitaria y el confinamiento que convertirse en un festival de efectos de montaje. Transcurre lente, tomándose el tiempo para diálogos importantes, dejando que los personajes se enfrenten con naturalidad a la crisis y mirando a veces fríamente, otras con mucho sentimiento, el desolador panorama de los personajes.

Una película triste, casi sombría, que aborda su narrativa con toda la solemnidad posible, con toda la pausa y queriendo no dejar escapar nada a sus ojos.

Un guion inteligente que sabe desarrollarse y una dirección que acierta en el tratamiento del guion y en la faceta interpretativa.

¿Nos ha gustado? Es una buena película, incómoda, una de ésas que hay que querer ver y tomarnos el tiempo y la voluntad para mirar a los ojos a una película que quiere mirar la muerte y acercarse cerca, muy cerca.

“Eye of the Storm” est un thriller qui ne se limite pas aux règles du genre, il veut aller au-delà et se rapprocher de la psychologie des personnages plutôt que de l’action elle-même, racontant plutôt le désespoir croissant de la crise sanitaire et du confinement plutôt que de devenir un festival d’effets de montage. Il se déroule lentement, prenant le temps pour des dialogues importants, permettant aux personnages de faire face à la crise avec naturel et en regardant parfois froidement, parfois avec beaucoup de sentiment, le paysage désolant des personnages.
Un film triste, presque sombre, qui aborde sa narration avec toute la solennité possible, avec toute la patience et qui ne veut rien laisser échapper à son regard.

Un scénario intelligent qui se développe et une réalisation qui réussit à traiter le scénario et l’aspect interprétatif.

Est-ce que nous avons aimé ? C’est un bon film, dérangeant, un de ceux qu’il faut vouloir regarder et prendre le temps et la volonté de regarder droit dans les yeux un film qui veut regarder la mort de près, très près.

“Eye of the Storm” ist ein Thriller, der letztlich kein Thriller sein will und sich nicht auf die Regeln des Genres beschränken will. Es ist ein Film, bei dem es mehr um die Psychologie der Figuren geht als um die eigentliche Handlung, und der am liebsten anstelle eines Festivals der Montageeffekten gezeigt werden würde, anstelle eines Festivals der Montageeffekten. Ci è piaciuto? È un buon film, scomodo, uno di quelli che bisogna voler guardare e prendersi il tempo e la volontà di guardare negli occhi un film che vuole guardare la morte e avvicinarsi molto da vicino.

Este un film care vrea să meargă dincolo și să aprofundeze psihologia personajelor, în loc să se concentreze doar pe acțiune. El povestește disperarea crescândă a crizei de sănătate și a internării, privind panorama dezolantă a personajelor cu un ritm lent, acordând timp pentru dialogurile importante. Portretizează criza cu un amestec de detașare rece și emoție profundă.
