The Nun II is an gothic supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves and released in 2023. The screenplay is written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper, based on a story by Cooper. This movie serves as a sequel to the 2018 film, The Nun, and is the eighth installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise. The cast includes Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons, who reprise their roles from the first film, along with Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell joining the cast.

As a good sequel, “The Nun II” once again focuses on the elements that made the first one successful: lots of scares and a gothic atmosphere (they say now) with a photography style that emphasizes light and shadow.

Caravaggio’s tenebrism seems to still have its followers, as similar themes are combined, although this time with fewer distorted angles and more scares.

“The Nun II” is one of those movies where you expect each subsequent “scare” to be more frightening than the previous one.

In “The Nun II,” there are some scares that are better than others. As for the movie’s structure, character development, and narrative, they may leave something to be desired. However, fans have come here to have their hearts racing, and this dark atmosphere may achieve just that.

Halloween is approaching, and it seems that once again, it will be one of the most popular costumes.

Plot

The story takes place in 1956 France, where a priest is brutally murdered. Sister Irene, who previously confronted the demon Valak in Romania, is assigned to investigate the case. She is accompanied by Sister Jeanne, a young novice, and Father Frenchie, a French priest. As Irene and her companions delve into the murder investigation, they uncover a long-hidden secret with roots that go back centuries. They also come to realize that Valak, the demon they thought they defeated, is still alive and more powerful than ever before.

“The Nun II. Movie review

Since gothic is no longer related to architecture but rather to the dark landscapes (which were once called romantic), cinema has relied on these stunning landscapes to create its good horror movies. “The Nun II” is not the best, by any means, but it is the most modern one and has the most advanced CGI, resulting in a fantastic visual experience. The movie luxuriates in its photographic quality, constantly playing with shadows and more. We are not dealing with a masterpiece of framing, but the film defends itself very well in that sought-after darkness.

As for what it offers to the viewer: one scare after another, we repeat. “The Nun II” is a succession of well-crafted shots that inevitably lead us to the vision of the movie poster, repeated endlessly without anyone seeming to seek any meaning in the story they came to tell.

It seems that with its imagery and all the management of pictorial baroque, the movie has enough elements to frighten us and limits itself to that, constantly resorting to the common landscapes of classic horror movies.

Michael Chaves is an accomplished American filmmaker who has worked in various roles such as director, screenwriter, visual effects artist, editor, and executive producer. He gained recognition for his contributions to the miniseries Chase Champion and the critically acclaimed theatrical films The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. La monja II es una película de terror gótico sobrenatural dirigida por Michael Chaves y estrenada en 2023. En “La monja II” hay algunos sustos mejores que otros, como estructura de película, desarrollo de personajes y narrativa, tal vez deje un poco que desear, pero los fans han venido aquí a darle un vuelco al corazón, y puede que todo este tenebrismo lo consiga.

Se acerca Halloween y parece que, otro año más, será uno de los disfraces más demandados.

Argumento

La historia se desarrolla en la Francia de 1956, donde un sacerdote es brutalmente asesinado. La hermana Irene, que ya se había enfrentado al demonio Valak en Rumanía, es designada para investigar el caso. La acompañan la hermana Jeanne, una joven novicia, y el padre Frenchie, un sacerdote francés. A medida que Irene y sus compañeros se adentran en la investigación del asesinato, descubren un secreto oculto que se remonta siglos atrás. También se dan cuenta de que Valak, el demonio al que creían haber derrotado, sigue vivo y es más poderoso que nunca.

“La monja II”. Crítica de la película

Desde que el gótico no tiene que ver con la arquitectura y sí con los paisajes tenebrosos que (en otra época los llamaron románticos), el cine se ha apoyado en estos estupendos paisajes para elaborar sus buenas películas de terror. No es “La monja II” la mejor, ni mucho menos, pero sí es la más moderna y la que cuenta con más adelantos de CGI, por lo que la sensación visual es estupenda, con todo un lujo a nivel fotográfico, jugando en todo momento con las sombras y demás. No estamos ante un portento de cine del encuadre, pero la película se defiende muy bien en ese tenebrismo tan buscado.

En cuanto a lo que viene a ofrecer al espectador: un susto tras otro, nos repetimos. “La monja II” es una sucesión de buenos planos que, inevitablemente, nos llevan a la visión del póster de la película, repetido hasta la saciedad y sin que nadie parezca buscarle sentido alguno a la historia que han venido a contar.

Parece que con la imaginaría y toda la gerencia del barroco pictórico la película tiene suficientes argumentos para asustarnos y se limita a ello, recurriendo en todo momento a los paisajes comunes del cine de terror más clásico.

La Nonne : La Malédiction de Sainte-Lucie est un film d’horreur surnaturel gothique réalisé par Michael Chaves et sorti en 2023. Synopsis

Depuis que le gothique n’a rien à voir avec l’architecture et tout à voir avec les paysages sombres (autrefois appelés romantiques), le cinéma s’est appuyé sur ces magnifiques paysages pour réaliser ses bons films d’horreur. “La Nonne : La Malédiction de Sainte-Lucie” n’est pas le meilleur, loin de là, mais c’est le plus moderne et celui qui dispose des avancées les plus poussées en matière de CGI, ce qui donne une sensation visuelle formidable, avec un véritable luxe du point de vue de la photographie, jouant en permanence avec les ombres et autres effets. Nous ne sommes pas en présence d’un chef-d’œuvre de cadrage cinématographique, mais le film se défend très bien dans cette ambiance sombre si recherchée.

En ce qui concerne ce qu’il offre au spectateur : un frisson après l’autre, nous nous répétons. “La Nonne : La Malédiction de Sainte-Lucie” est une succession de bons plans qui, inévitablement, nous amènent à la vision de l’affiche du film, répétée à l’envi sans que personne ne semble chercher à lui donner un sens particulier.

Il semble que grâce à l’imagerie et à toute la gestion du baroque pictural, le film a suffisamment d’éléments pour nous effrayer et se limite à cela, en recourant tout le temps aux paysages communs du cinéma d’horreur le plus classique.

Die Fotografie ist luxuriös, da sie oft mit Totenköpfen und anderen Elementen spielt. Wir haben es nicht mit einem Meisterwerk der Bildkomposition zu tun, aber der Film behauptet sich gut in diesem gesuchten Tenebrismus.

“The Nun II”. Recensione del film

Dal momento che il gotico non ha nulla a che fare con l’architettura ma con paesaggi oscuri (che in un’altra epoca venivano chiamati romantici), il cinema si è basato su questi meravigliosi paesaggi per realizzare i suoi buoni film horror. “The Nun II” non è il migliore, né tanto meno, ma è sicuramente il più moderno e quello che utilizza maggiormente gli effetti speciali al computer, quindi la sensazione visiva è fantastica, con un vero lusso a livello fotografico, giocando costantemente con le ombre e altro ancora. Non stiamo parlando di un capolavoro dell’inquadratura, ma il film si difende molto bene in questo tenebrismo tanto ricercato.

Per quanto riguarda ciò che offre allo spettatore: una paura dopo l’altra, ci ripetiamo. “The Nun II” è una successione di buone scene che, inevitabilmente, ci portano alla visione del poster del film, ripetuto all’infinito senza che nessuno sembri cercare un senso alla storia che sono venuti a raccontare.

Sembra che con l’immaginario e tutta la gestione del barocco pittorico il film abbia abbastanza argomenti per spaventarci e si limiti a questo, ricorrendo costantemente ai paesaggi comuni del cinema horror più classico.

Né da disprezzare né da raccomandare: un film che sa cosa vuole e a quale pubblico è rivolto.

Călugărița II este un film de groază supranatural gotic regizat de Michael Chaves și lansat în 2023. Scenariul este scris de Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing și Akela Cooper, pe baza unei povestiri de Cooper. Acest film servește ca o continuare a filmului din 2018, The Nun (Călugărița), și este al optulea episod din franciza The Conjuring Universe. Din distribuție fac parte Taissa Farmiga,Jonas Bloquet și Bonnie Aarons, care își reiau rolurile din primul film, alături de Storm Reid și Anna Popplewell, care se alătură distribuției.

Ca o continuare propriu-zisă, “Călugărița II” se concentrează din nou pe elementele care au făcut succesul primului film: multe spaime și o atmosferă gotică (se spune acum), cu un stil fotografic care se joacă cu lumina și umbrele.

Tenebrismul lui Caravaggio pare să aibă încă adepți și, deși folosește teme similare, de data aceasta sunt mai puține planuri în plan scurt și mai multe spaime.

“Călugărița II” este unul dintre acele filme în care te aștepți ca următoarea “sperietură” să te “sperie” mai mult decât cea precedentă.

În “Călugărița II”, unele sperieturi sunt mai bune decât altele, iar în ceea ce privește structura filmului, dezvoltarea personajelor și narațiunea, s-ar putea să lase de dorit. Cu toate acestea, fanii au venit aici pentru ca inimile lor să se agite, iar acest întuneric poate reuși exact acest lucru.
Halloween-ul se apropie și se pare că, încă o dată, va fi unul dintre cele mai solicitate costume.

Plot

Povestea se petrece în Franța anului 1956, unde un preot este ucis cu brutalitate. Sora Irene, care se confruntase anterior cu demonul Valak în România, este desemnată să investigheze cazul. Ea este însoțită de sora Jeanne, o tânără novice, și de părintele Frenchie, un preot francez. “Călugărița II” Recenzie de film

De când goticul nu se mai referă la arhitectură, ci mai degrabă la peisajele întunecate (numite cândva romantice), cinematografia s-a bazat pe aceste decoruri sinistre pentru a-și crea filme de groază bune. “Călugărița II” nu este cel mai bun, în niciun caz, dar este cel mai modern și are cel mai avansat CGI, creând o experiență vizuală uimitoare, cu un lux fotografic, jucându-se constant cu umbrele și nu numai. Nu asistăm la o capodoperă de încadrare, dar filmul se apără foarte bine în acel întuneric căutat.

Cât despre ceea ce oferă publicului: o sperietură după alta, repetăm. “Călugărița II” este un șir de cadre bine executate care ne conduc inevitabil la viziunea de pe afișul filmului, repetate la nesfârșit, fără ca cineva să pară că încearcă să găsească vreun sens în povestea pe care a venit să o spună.

Se pare că prin imaginile și tot managementul barocului pictural, filmul are suficiente elemente pentru a ne speria și se limitează la asta, recurgând constant la peisajele comune ale cinematografiei clasice de groază.
