‘Get Out’ (2017). Movie Review

Diane T. Larsen

Jordan Peele writes and directs his debut feature, a work of intrigue and horror loaded with… interracial themes.

Get Out is the first film by Jordan Peele (whom we already know in this medium for Us).

The Story: Rich White Woman Dating Black Man

They’ve been dating for five months, and Chris and Rose decide to spend a few days at her wealthy (white) parents’ house. It looks like these people didn’t have all the good intentions they seemed to have after all.

A Very Original Film

Very well paced and full of surprises. It’s not your typical TV movie and it gets stranger and stranger. It slowly gets us interested and asks us: what is this all about? It’s impossible to understand the film if it’s not from a racial point of view, but since it seems that nowadays it is not possible to talk about these things… we are not supposed to say anything.

Beyond the racial issue, the film is very good, and the plot will surprise you. It wants to make you feel uncomfortable and it will achieve its goal, not exactly how you might expect it, but it will achieve it.

Good performances. Jordan Peele is going to become a star.

Opinion

Get Out is worth it. Very good work in direction and screenplay. Of course, it has its moral pretensions (not at all disguised).

It will hook you little by little.

Awards

Oscar Awards: Best Original Screenplay. 4 nominations, inc. Best Picture

Golden Globes: Nominated for Best Comedy Film and Comedy Actor (Kaluuya).

Movie Reviews

“A gloriously twisted thriller that simultaneously has so much to say about the state of affairs in post-Obama America”

Peter Debruge: Variety

“A fantastic thriller with a sharp eye for the intersection of genre thrills and social commentary.”

John DeFore: The Hollywood Reporter

‘Get Out’ (2017). Critique du film

Diane T. Larsen

Avis

Get Out vaut la peine d’être vu.

On s’y accroche petit à petit.
