“The Summer I Turned Pretty” returns for its second season on Amazon Prime Video. Created by Jenny Han and starring Lola Tung and Christopher Briney among others.

You know those teenage series that are a bit cheesy and can only be appreciated and understood if you’re a teenager? “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is one of those series vying for the crown in the realm of sensitive shows.

And it’s well on its way to achieving that, even though it seemed challenging.

About the series

Let me give you an example to give you an idea. The main character confesses to the love interest (who happens to be blond) that she kissed another guy. His response is that it’s all his fault, they can still be together, and she’s lovely.

The series continues like that, more or less, with some ups and downs of supposed reality. However, don’t expect too much from this teenage drama where the main characters mature season by season alongside the audience, who are mostly within that age range.

It has a clearly TV-like format, with charming and light-hearted characters who seem too fragile, sensitive, and delightful to exist in the real world. But movies and TV are not about neorealism, and Amazon Prime Video offers us this charming and tender series that is bound to captivate even the most cynical spirits and the Mr. Scrooge that some of us become as we age.

Let your feelings run wild and get caught up in the innocence, youthful passion, and shyness of this series and its more than charming protagonists.

ちょっと安っぽくて、ティーンエイジャーでなければ理解できないティーンエイジャー向けシリーズをご存知だろうか？「私たちの青い夏」は、そんなシリーズのひとつで、感度の高いシリーズのチャンピオンになることを目指している。

そして、困難に見えながらも、それは達成されつつある。

シリーズについて

一例を挙げよう。主人公が恋敵（たまたま金髪だった）に他の男とキスしたことを告白する。すると彼は、全部自分のせいだ、二人はまだ一緒にいられる、彼女は魅力的だ、と答える。

このシリーズは、多かれ少なかれ、現実であるはずの浮き沈みを交えながら、こんな感じで続いていく。このティーンエイジ・ドラマに過度の期待は禁物だ。主人公たちはシーズンを追うごとに成長し、視聴者もその年齢層がほとんどだ。

魅力的で軽快な登場人物たちは、現実世界には存在し得ないような、儚げで繊細で魅惑的な印象を与える。しかし、映画もテレビもネオリアリズムを必要としているわけではない。Amazonプライム・ビデオは、疑い深い人たちや、年齢を重ねるにつれてスクルージ氏になる人たちさえも間違いなく虜にする、この愉快で優しいシリーズを提供してくれる。

このシリーズの無邪気さ、若さゆえの情熱、内気さ、そして魅力的な主人公たちに魅了され、感情を爆発させよう。
