도깨비 (Dokkaebi / Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) broke South Korean cable television history when it aired in 2016. Ten years on, its four lead stars are coming back together for a reunion special confirmed by tvN on March 26.

South Korean network tvN announced on March 26 that actors Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dong-wook and Yoo In-na will reunite for a travel-format program tentatively titled Guardian: The Lonely and Great God 10th Anniversary, set to air in the first half of 2026. The project, also being produced as part of tvN’s own 20th anniversary programming slate, will see the cast go on a short trip together revisiting the scenes, dialogue and emotional moments that defined the original series.

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God — referred to internationally as Goblin, drawn from the Korean mythological creature dokkaebi at the center of its story — first aired on tvN between December 2016 and January 2017. It followed Kim Shin, an immortal Goryeo-era general cursed with eternal life, and his unlikely entanglement with a spirited young woman who may hold the key to ending his existence. A Grim Reaper sharing his home, complete with his own secret past, gave the drama a second love story running alongside the central romance.

When its final episode aired in January 2017, the series had become the first cable drama in South Korean television history to surpass a 20 percent viewership rating. That milestone arrived in an era when cable productions routinely recorded single-digit numbers, and the achievement drew attention from the entire Korean entertainment industry.

The drama’s reach extended well beyond its initial broadcast. Its soundtrack dominated digital music charts for months, and OST tracks continue to accumulate hundreds of millions of streams on global platforms. Fashion items worn by the cast — including the long coat worn by Gong Yoo — sold out within days of their on-screen appearance. Filming locations in Quebec City, Canada attracted a sustained wave of international visitors for years after the finale.

At the 2017 Baeksang Arts Awards, the series swept major categories. Writer Kim Eun-sook took home the Grand Prize and Gong Yoo won Best Actor. The drama also claimed top honors at the Cable TV Broadcasting Awards and the Korea Drama Awards.

The reunion format follows a model tvN has used previously, most recently with a 10th anniversary special for Reply 1988 that brought together its cast across multiple episodes. Details on filming locations and broadcast format for the Goblin special have not yet been disclosed.

tvN stated that the program will bring back the laughter, emotion and chemistry of the original cast, and said it sees the series as a project that has never stopped being loved.

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God 10th Anniversary is scheduled to air on tvN in the first half of 2026.
