“Run Rabbit Run” (2023) Movie Review: The Familiar Trauma of Horror, This Time from Australia

Run Rabbit Run
Run Rabbit Run

Run Rabbit Run” is an Australian film directed by Daina Reid and starring Sarah Snook and Lily LaTorre.

“Run Rabbit Run” faces a recurring problem throughout the entire film: we have seen it a thousand times before.

The film, bound by the constraints of its genre, relies on clichés instead of offering anything new, no matter how patient we may be with it.

Sarah, a fertility doctor with a deep understanding of the cycle of life, is forced to make sense of her young daughter Mia’s increasingly strange behavior. In doing so, she must confront her own beliefs and confront a ghost from her past.

Film Review

It could have been set in Texas, Sicily, or Madagascar, but it takes place in Australia, once again exploring a story of family trauma with a frightened girl at its center. It is a tale of a mother and daughter struggling to survive the madness of their familial ancestors.

A B-movie filled with jump scares, “Run Rabbit Run” fails to bring anything new to the table and leaves us with the terrible feeling of having wasted two hours of our lives on a repetitive narrative that offers nothing thematically or aesthetically until the very end.

The film disappoints in its beginning and development, only partially redeeming itself with a strong ending that, although expected, is executed with intensity.

The film relies more on sound effects than visuals, and its biggest flaw lies in the predictability of its sequences. We know exactly when and how things will happen, which ultimately leaves us unsatisfied as nothing surprises us in the slightest.

While the film is not poorly directed or acted, it lacks ambition and a desire to truly surprise and terrify its audience, instead opting to meet expectations.

Our Opinion

A horror film that fails to evoke fear due to the predictability of its entire plot.

A film we have already seen, lacking a visual style that could redeem it.
